Lecture for a small planet

Posted on February 27, 2020 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Frances Moore Lappé, author of 19 books including the long-time best seller, Diet for a Small Planet, comes to Sonoma for a March 5 appearance presented by the Praxis Peace Institute. Topic: Climate Crisis in Focus: Finding Hope Through Democratic Action.

Lappé was an early advocate for the concept of sustainability. As profile in The New York Times put it,  “Lappé is one of the few people who can credibly be said to have changed the way we eat, and one of an even smaller group to have done it for the better.”

With her new book, Daring Democracy, she demonstrates the power we can wield as citizens, especially in relation to the climate crisis, inequality, and getting money out of politics.

Lappe is also co-founder of Oakland-based Food First and the Cambridge-based Small Planet Institute, which she leads with her daughter, Anna Lappe. The recipient of nineteen honorary degrees, Frances has been a visiting scholar at MIT and UC Berkeley, and in 1987 she received the Right Livelihood Award.

Thursday, March 5, noon. $20. Sonoma Community Center, 276 E. Napa St. Praxispeace.org
