A fun – and safe – high school Grad Night

Posted on April 10, 2018 by Sonoma Valley Sun

Grad Night 2An overnight party for teens that lasts until 5 a.m., with games, fortune tellers, a casino, food, magic, massages, henna tattoos, prizes and even something for the parents – their kids’ safety. The annual Sonoma Valley High School Grad Party keeps the teens on campus and occupied through the night, with the chance to win a car at the end.

Stacie Hedley, one of the event organizers, says the tradition is all making memories. “Why else do we do it? To keep them safe.”

Graduation nights across the country have often ended in tragedy, Hedley said, including in Sonoma County when more than 20 years ago a carload of teen grads were killed coming home from a beach party. “That’s when Sonoma Valley started our Grad Night, the first in the county to have such a program.”

This safe, special night on June 1 is funded by a combination of ticket sales and community support. So it relies on donations — of time, money and prizes, like the car from Sonoma Chevrolet – to makes it happen.

The event can also use more on-site volunteers, to help with set-up and to chaperone the event. If you can pitch in, contact [email protected].
