The Sonoma Ecology Center continues its series of hikes through landscapes showing signs of recovery and regrowth after the October fires.
Upcoming outings at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park are set for Sunday, Feb 18 and Sunday, Feb. 25, both from about 10 a.m. to about noon.
SEC staff will assess burned trees, learning how to interpret fire-affected landscapes, and watching for special “fire follower” wildflowers. Discussion questions include: Why did this happen? What does it mean? How do we prepare for it happening again?
The walk of 2-3 miles is over mostly flat terrain on a trail, with a few steep inclines. Please wear sturdy footwear, and bring trekking poles if you typically use them.
Free, but registration required. Sonomaecologycenter.org. $7 per vehicle parking fee. 13630 Highway 12.
