22-year prison sentence for Sonoma attacker

Posted on August 21, 2017 by Sonoma Valley Sun

The man convicted of beating and sexually assaulting a Sonoma woman in 2016 has been sentenced to 22 years in prison.

Alexander William Parlato, 30 of Novato, had pled “no contest” to charges related to the attack on June 8, 2016.

The victim, a 55-year-old Sonoma resident, reluctantly allowed the defendant into her house late that night when he complained he was too intoxicated to drive home.

After he entered the residence, he attempted to have sex with the victim. When she resisted, he beat and sexually assaulted her. She suffered a broken nose and numerous other injuries to her face, arms, and neck.

The victim managed to escape and ran to a nearby neighbor, who called police.

On April 26 of this year Parlato entered “no contest” pleas to one count of rape, one count of forced digital penetration, and one count of felony domestic violence causing great bodily injury. He also admitted a prior “strike” offense.

“This was an egregious case involving a brutal assault,” District Attorney Ravitch said. “The callous and violent nature of this offense justifies a long prison sentence.”

In addition to the 22-year prison sentence, Parlato will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and may be subject to additional incarceration as a sexually violent predator.
